MINURSO’S PEACEKEEPERS: NATIONAL DAY OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA

On 17 August, MINURSO raised the flag of the Republic of Indonesia at the Mission HQ in Laayoune to celebrate the country’s national day. It marks Indonesia's declaration of independence from the Netherlands in 1945. Ceremonies and festivities are held throughout the country to celebrate the Day, including flag hoisting ceremonies, local community competitions, and cultural parades.

Indonesia is among the top 10 troop contributing countries. Since 1957, the Republic has deployed more than 24,000 military and police personnel to the UN peace operations. Indonesia also has a large-scale peacekeeping training center designed to support the deployment of future UN peacekeepers.

As of 30 April 2023, 2711 women and men from Indonesia serve in the UN field operations, including MINURSO.

The red color of the Indonesian flag represents blood and courage, while the white stands for purity and spirit.

Selamat Hari Nasional!
