MINURSO’S PEACEKEEPERS: NATIONAL DAY OF FRANCE

On 14 July MINURSO Celebrated the national day of France by raising the national flag at the Mission headquarters in Laayoune next to the UN flag.

France has been a member of the United Nations since its founding in 1945 and holds a permanent seat at the Security Council. The country is the 28th largest troop contributor to the peacekeeping operations.

« Bastille Day » is the common name given in English-speaking countries to France's national day celebrated in commemoration of the storming on 14 July 1789 of the Bastille,  a fortress prison in Paris where political prisoners were detained.  The commemoration has come to signify France’s fundamental commitment to defending Human Rights.
