On 23 July, MINURSO marked the celebration of Egypt’s National Day by hoisting the country’s flag at the Mission HQ next to the UN flag.

Egypt is a longstanding contributor to UN peacekeeping operations. Since 1960 over 30,000 Egyptian police and military personnel have participated in 37 UN missions. 

In MINURSO, Egypt is the largest contributor of UN Military Observers, providing 24 UNMOs representing ten percent of the Mission’s total UNMOs who serve at the Mission's HQ, the Tindouf Liaison Office, and all nine Team Sites. 

On the National Day, Egypt commemorates the Revolution of 1952 that led to the end of the monarchy and the establishment of a republic.
