MINURSO organizes a welcome parade to honor the newly arrived DFC Commodore Faustina Boakyewaa Anokye

On Monday 14 March 2022, a military welcome parade was held as the Mission HQ to honor the newly-arrived Deputy Force Commander, Commodore Faustina Boakyewaa Anokye, who arrived in Western Sahara on 20 February 2022. The welcome parade was overseen by MINURSO SRSG and Head of Mission, Alexander Ivanko, in the presence of the Force Commander, Major-General Zia Ur Rehman, and MINURSO military and civilian personnel. During his remarks, the SRSG welcomed the new DFC, stressed the central role of the military of component in MINURSO, and highlighted Commodore Boakyewaa Anokye’s wide ranging relevant experience and long-history of service. For his part, the Force Commander pointed out the Commodore's many command qualities and expressed his full confidence that the new DFC would be thus equipped to handle the many challenges she will face as MINURSO DFC. Commodore Boakyewaa Anokye takes over from her compatriot, the late Brigadier General Constance Emefa Edjeani-Afenu who passed away in Ghana just a few weeks after completing her tour of duty in the Mission in January 2022.
