On 04 March 2020, MINURSO organized a ceremony celebrating, in advance, the International Women's Day celebrated every year on the 8th of March. A female military parade was organized on the occasion that was attended by the SRSG and Head of the Mission Colin Stewart, the FC Zia Ur Rehman, and the DFC Constance EDJEANI-AFENU as well as the civilian and military personnel. SRSG addressed the attendees and highlighted particularly the importance of empowering women in the United Nations system. For the FC, he mainly underlined the significant service of MINURSO military staff members. As for the DFC, she conveyed, during her intervention, her remarkable personal story as a military officer, regarded in her country (Ghana) an exclusive field for men.
