MINURSO’S PEACEKEEPERS: NATIONAL DAY OF NEPAL
On 18 February, MINURSO celebrated Napal National Day by raising its flag at the Mission headquarters in Laayoune next to the UN flag.
On this day, Nepal observes “Democracy Day” which marks the birth of modern Nepal in 1951. Nepal is the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping
operations with over 5,700 personnel under the blue flag, including in MINURSO. The Nepalese flag has 3 primary colors: white, blue and red.
The two triangles symbolize the Himalaya Mountains and represent the two major religions in Nepal—Hinduism and Buddhism.
