MINURSO PEACEKEEPERS: NATIONAL DAY OF UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
On 4 July, MINURSO marked the United States' National Day by hoisting the U.S. flag alongside the UN flag at its headquarters in Laayoune. This day honors the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 by the Second Continental Congress, which led to the founding of the United States of America.
The U.S., a permanent member of the UN Security Council, also contributes personnel to UN peacekeeping missions globally, including the Force Chief of Staff serving within MINURSO.
The national flag's 13 red and white stripes represent the original colonies while the 50 white stars on a blue background stand for the 50 states. The red color on the flag embodies the valor and bravery and the white symbolizes purity and innocence.
