On 16 December, MINURSO celebrated Kazakhstan National Day by raising its flag at the Mission headquarters in Laayoune next to the UN flag.

Kazakhstan Independence Day marks the day in 1991when the Supreme Soviet of the USSR adopted a law on the independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Following obtaining its independence, Kazakhstan has worked extensively with multilateral organizations and contributes women and men to UN peacekeeping operations all over the world, including MINURSO.

The blue color of the State Flag of Kazakhstan represents pure sky, peace and prosperity, the golden eagle reflects aspiration of the state to the heights of world civilization.
