MINURSO’S PEACEKEEPERS: NATIONAL DAY OF GUINEA
On 2 October, MINURSO raised the flag of Guinea at the Mission's headquarters in Laayoune to commemorate the country’s National Day.
Guinea is a major contributor of troops to UN peacekeeping operations with more than 700 military and police personnel deployed worldwide, including over 600 deployed to MINUSMA (UN Stabilization Mission in Mali).
In MINURSO, Guinea contributes four military observers including Force Chief of Staff at Mission HQ in Laayoune.
On 2 October, the country celebrates the independence of 1958. The same year was adopted the national flag representing sacrifice and labour (red), Guinean gold and African sun (yellow) as well as the vegetation of the country (green).
Merci, Guinea!
