MINURSO celebrates World Environment Day
On 5 June, MINURSO celebrated World Environment Day. This year’s theme for the day is “Beat Plastic Pollution”.
The event was attended by MINURSO civilian and military personnel and presided over by SRSG and Head of the Mission, Alexander Ivanko, who reiterated the call of the United Nations Secretary General to address plastic pollution, one of the great environmental challenges of our time.
MINURSO Environmental Officer, Vivian Njogu, gave a presentation highlighting the threat plastic pollution poses to the environment, and in particular to our oceans. The presentation was followed by a quiz to help raise awareness on the impact of plastic pollution on people’s health.
Eco friendly and reusable water bottles were distributed to all participants at the end of the event.
