On 31 August, MINURSO marked the Independence Day of Malaysia raising the national flag at the Mission HQ in Laayoune.

In this day, Malaysia celebrates its independence of 1957. The official activities are taking place in the capital Kuala Lumpur, as well across the peninsula and throughout its 878 islands.

 As of 31 May 2025, 866 Malaysian peacekeepers serve in peace operations worldwide including with MINURSO.

The national flag of Malaysia consists of 14 alternating red and white stripes representing the federal territory and the 13 member states.
