MINURSO celebrated the International of UN Peacekeepers
On 29 May 2019, MINURSO celebrated the International of UN Peacekeepers. A ceremony, chaired by the OiC Head of MINURSO, Force Commander Major-General Zia-Ur-Rehman toke place in the parade ground of the Mission HQ, in Laayoune (Western Sahara). The Major-General Zia-Ur-Rheman, at the presence of the Mission leadership, read the message of the UN Secretary-General for the International Day of UN Peacekeepers and addressed to MINURSO personnel gathered for the ceremony, recalling the values and sacrifices of whom served and lost their life for the noble cause of peace. After one minute of silence in the memory of the all fallen, the Major-General Zia-Ur-Rehman, accompanied by the Mission Chief of Staff, Mr. Alexander Ivanko, deposed a flower wreath at the monument of the MINURSO fallen. Later, the OiC Head of MINURSO, accompanied by the Mission Chief of Staff awarded Military Observers and other uniformed personnel with the UN Medal for their service. In this occasion all MINURSO personnel had a ribbon with the UN colorus in adeherence to the campaign ‘Thank you Peacekeepers’.
