The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

Rotation of Bangladeshi Formed Police Unit underway

23 November 2008 -- A 70-strong advance party of the Bangladeshi Formed police Unit (FPU1) that will replace the current FPU as part of the normal rotation process, has arrived in Nyala from Dhaka onboard a UN-chartered aircraft.

The 140-officer BANFPU1, the first Bangladeshi FPU deployed to Darfur is due for repatriation after having completed a 1-year tour of duty with UNAMID. The Rest of the new FPU will arrive tomorrow 24 November.

UNAMID FPU's have received specialized training in high risk operations for the protection of civilians in eminent danger and are to operate within strict internationally accepted standards on the use of proportionate force in enforcing crowd control.
