MINURSO’s peacekeepers: National Day of Chad

On 11 August, MINURSO observed the Independence Day of Chad by raising the national flag at the Mission HQ in Laayoune next to the UN flag. Chad , Africa’s fifth-largest country, gained its independence on 11 August 1960. It is one contributors to UN peacekeeping operations deploying 30 peacekeepers worldwide including three UNMOs with MINURSO serving in challenging conditions at the Team Sites east and west of the berm.

The colors of the national flag represent the sky and the waters of the country (blue), the sun and the desert of northern Chad (yellow), and the sacrifice of the struggle for the freedom (red).
