Today, 04 April 2024, MINURSO celebrated the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.

 The UNMAS Program Manager Officer, Elhadji Mamadou Kebe, provided a briefing on the key work of UNMAS in terms of clearance and the raising of awareness about the danger of landmines and remnants of war.

Afterwards, the Chief of Mission Support Ms. Veneranda Mukandoli-Jefferson read the message of the Secretary-General urging, in particular, Member States “to support the United Nations Mine Action Strategy and ratify and fully implement the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, the Convention on Cluster Munitions, and the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons”.

 During the event, MINURSO civilian and military staff members were invited to participate in a quiz aimed at raising awareness of the dangers posed by mines and remnants of war.
