MINURSO’S PEACEKEEPERS: NATIONAL DAY OF PAKISTAN
On 14 August, MINURSO celebrated Pakistan’s National Day by hoisting the national flag at its headquarters in Laayoune.
This day marks Pakistan’s independence, declared in August 1947, and is celebrated with patriotic ceremonies such as flag-raisings, parades, cultural performances, and music.
Since 1960, Pakistan has consistently contributed troops and police to UN peacekeeping missions. As of 31 May 2025, 2674 Pakistani personnel were deployed globally, including 12 UN Military Observers with MINURSO.
The Pakistani flag features a dark green background symbolizing the country's Muslim majority, with a vertical white stripe along the hoist to represent religious minorities. At the center are a white crescent moon and a five-pointed star, representing progress and enlightenment.
پاکستان کا قومی دن مبارک ہو۔
