Welcoming the staff, the SRSG called for a minute of silence in memory of former Nigerian President His Excellency Alhaji Umaru Yar'Adua, who passed away on Wednesday 5 May 2010. Presenting his condolences and that of the Mission to the Nigerian military and civilian staff, the SRSG indicated as directed by the SG that the United Nations flag be flown at half mast on Friday 7 May 2010 as a mark of respect towards the former Head of State.
The SRSG Abdel-Aziz thereafter briefed the staff (UNMOs, UNPOLs, civilian international, civilian locally-recruited, UNVs) on the mandated activities of MINURSO, which was unanimously extended until 30 April 2011 under UN Security Council Resolution 1920 (2010).
